Joan & Lale Roberts
Branching Out is an outdoor twig furniture and accessory adventure inspired by artist Joan Langley Roberts' grandfather. Joan remembers visiting her grandfather's farm and admiring his twig creations, which included an entire screened-in porch and garden furniture, all made from un-milled trees.
While residing in Arkansas, she created her first twig pieces from wild cherry; subsequent furniture pieces were created from native sassafras. After relocating to the U.P., Joan and her husband Lale began making furniture with native tag alder. Tag alder lends itself well to twig furniture due to its durability and dark colored bark which is similar to wild cherry.
Joan's present inventory includes plant stands, garden benches, birdhouses and feeders as well as decorative fences. All pieces are original designs and each year something new is added. All furniture is constructed for use in the garden or indoors as practical or decorative pieces.
She and her husband are Watton, Mi. residents and have 4 homeschooled children. She is an active member of the Community Women's Group and also one of the web designers for this site.
Custom orders are welcomed. Joan can be reached by calling 906-355-2182.

Plant stand with birdseye maple top. Twig furniture doesn't have to be 'primitive'!

Planter box is 18" high and holds 6" pot. Mini fench won't keep the deer out, but it's cute!
